MTA's Courtesy Campaign Extends To Bus Etiquette

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Yorkers, please keep your feet off the seat.

The phrase is just one friendly reminder bus riders can expect to see in advertisements the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will begin pushing Monday.

The ads are part of a broader courtesy campaign that began underground on ads throughout city subway cars.

The MTA's tips include what some commuters might call common sense.

-- Step aside to let others off first.

-- Take your pack off your back.

-- Don't clip your nails on the bus, please.

One ad says "Offer your seat to an elderly, disabled, or pregnant person. Not only is it the right thing to do, but you'll make your grandmother proud.''

The MTA said it's trying to address common complaints from riders. More than 2.5 million people ride the city's buses every day.
