MTA: Booth Workers Will No Longer Accept Cash, Swap Damaged MetroCards

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A big change is coming to New York City subway token booths.

The MTA says booth workers will no longer accept riders' cash or swap their damaged MetroCards.

These transactions were halted in March 2020 to protect workers from COVID.

The MTA says the "tap and pay" fare system set to fully replace MetroCards at the end of 2023 will eliminate the need for booth workers to help riders with cash transactions.
