Pedestrian Struck And Killed By MTA Bus In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a bus in the Bronx early Friday morning.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the Kingsbridge section near the corner of West 231st street and Kingsbridge Avenue.
Police said 23-year-old Luis Inoa was riding in a livery cab westbound on West 231st Street when he asked the driver to stop. He then got out of the cab and began crossing the street in an erratic manor, police said.
An MTA bus that was headed west on West 231st Street tried to avoid Inoa, but couldn't in time and hit him, police said.
Inoa was found in the roadway with severe trauma to his body. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The drivers of the bus and the livery cab both remained on the scene.
Fernando Mateo, the head of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, wants the driver of the livery cab prosecuted because he was unlicensed.
Mateo wants the TLC to crack down on licensed livery owners who lease their cars to unlicensed drivers, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.
"Right now there's a lot of hustlers out there who take their legal vehicle and put an illegal driver behind the wheel causing havoc," he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
