Suspect Charged In Alleged Assault Of MTA Bus Driver

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect who surrendered to police after allegedly attacking an MTA bus driver in Brooklyn has been charged with assault.

The incident took place aboard a B8 bus at around 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Avenue D in East Flatbush, police said.

On Tuesday, Thutmose Scott Clark, 18, of Brooklyn, was accompanied by his mother and the family's pastor as he surrendered. They said Clark suffers from mental illness and autism, and the said those conditions caused Clark to attack the bus driver.

Clark's mother said her son also asked the driver to let them off the bus before the situation escalated.

The driver, 62, had previously told police the attack was completely unprovoked, and there was no quarrel before the attack.
