Poll: 'Whatever' Dubbed Most Annoying Word Of 2015

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new poll released by Marist ranks some of the the most annoying phrases of the year.

And for the seventh year in a row --- "whatever" takes the crown.

"It's not a real answer, but people use it for everything," Austin Barnes, of the Bronx, told CBS2's Tracee Carrasco.

Coming in second on the list is "no offense but," because people feel that usually what comes after that but is something that's going to offend you.

"You're going to be honest and it's going to hurt, but I say it all the time," a man said.

Third on the list? The all too common "like."

"I probably say it too much and don't realize it, but everyone else does it, and I realize it, and it bothers me," one person said.

Carrasco asked New Yorkers and others to add their own nominations too.

"I hate when people my age now say 'on point.' I think that's really, really annoying," Maura Harrington said.

"Bae," a slang term that is used to refer to a person's significant other, "amazing," "hashtag," and "literally," were all contenders.

"'Literally' -- everybody says 'literally,'" a man said. "They don't know what it means."
