Morton Williams Supermarket Boycotts Turkish Food Products In Support Of Israel

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Now they're talking turkey.

In response to Turkey's boycotts against Israeli products and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan's support of Hamas, Morton Williams Supermarkets is suspending future purchases of Turkish food products effective immediately, the company announced Wednesday.

"Israel is the one true democracy in the Middle East trying to survive against hostile neighbors seeking its destruction," CEO Morton Sloan said in a statement. "Turkey, by siding with those who would destroy Israel, deserves our condemnation. We will lift our own boycott of Turkish products when Erdogan changes his anti-Semitic course."

Morton Williams is a family-owned supermarket chain with several locations in the New York metropolitan area.
