Person With Gun Leads To Lockdown At Monmouth University

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police at Monmouth University in New Jersey ordered the community to shelter in place Tuesday night, after a man was seen with a gun.

The suspect was later apprehended, but the lockdown was maintained.

Monmouth University police ordered everyone to shelter in place around 10 p.m. Members of the university community were told they would be advised on what actions to take.

Anyone looking for information was asked to call the Emergency and Weather Hotline at (732) 263-5900, and not to call university police unless they needed an officer or were reporting an emergency.

Just before 10:30 p.m.., police said a suspect was apprehended, but asked that the lockdown be maintained as police searched for evidence.

The gun was recovered early Wednesday morning and the lockdown was lifted, police said.
