'Modern Family' Pays For NYC Marriage Licenses

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With the wedding of Mitchell and Cam approaching on the sitcom "Modern Family," ABC picked up the tab on all marriage licenses in New York City on Monday.

As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported, couples walking out of the city clerk's office were greeted by cheerful young staffers from the network handing them envelopes with reimbursement money.

Lars and Alfredo came to New York from Miami to tie the knot and had no idea about the promotion.

"The guy inside told us that he had good news for us," one of the men told Rincon.

Couples said they received $25 or $35.

"We're going to put it toward our lunch," one newlywed husband said.
