NYPD: Son Of Missing Queens Woman Charged With Murder
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The son of a Queens woman who went missing last month has been charged with murder, the NYPD said Saturday.
Roman Gorbunova, 21, admitted to beating his mother, Lyubov Gorbunova, 58, with a piece of furniture, before wrapping her in a bag, placing her in a garbage pail on wheels and taking her body to a nearby park, following a dispute in which the mother allegedly told her son, "I wish you had never been born," a police source said Friday.
Roman Gorbunova has been charged with murder, concealment of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon, according to authorities.
Investigators found a body in Flushing Meadow Park around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, but have yet to determine if it belongs to Lyubov Gorbunova.
Officials said the same day his mother went missing, an Uber driver reported dropping Gorbunova off at the park. The driver told police that he was carrying bags that had a suspicious smell. By the time officers arrived, he was gone.
Around 5 a.m. the next morning, Gorbunova was seen on surviellance video stealing the computer monitor from the security desk in the lobby of their apartment building in Corona, police said. He was arrested, but then released and given a desk appearance ticket.
Four days later, a family friend reported Lyubov Gorbunova missing.
