NEW YORK -- On Jan. 15, 2009, U.S. Airways Flight 1549 took off from LaGuardia Airport and lost engine power shortly later after hitting a flock of geese.

Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger made the daring emergency landing on the Hudson River near 42nd Street. With help from the Coast Guard, the FDNY, and 14 ferries, all 155 people on board were rescued.

The incident was later named the "Miracle of the Hudson."

NY Waterway Capt. Vince Lombardi talked about that day.

"I knew what I was looking at. I knew what I had to do. So, I pulled the crew up to the house and got them prepared and headed straight out," Lombardi said. "I was so happy to be a part of something that had a positive effect on so many people's lives."

The incident was later turned into a movie starring Tom Hanks, which also featured several NY Waterway ferry crew members.
