A police source told CBS2's Jessica Schneider that the man, who was in his 30s and was not a tourist, was stabbed once in the chest with a knife while involved in a quarrel.

The man suffered a deep laceration from shoulder to waist on the left side of body, the source said.

The stabbing happened during the very busy rush hour when Karl Daniel was trying to get home.

"One of the cops said: 'You've got to go inside. If you live here, then go inside. If you don't, out,'" Daniel said.

Officials close to the investigation told Radzius the victim ran and made it to the end of the block to the Iron Bar and Grill, 713 Eighth Ave.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center in serious, but stable condition, police said. He was expected to survive, sources said.

A suspect was in custody in the stabbing late Wednesday, police said. Charges were pending.
