Fallen FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy Remembered For Second Day At Wake
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Colleagues, friends and loved ones came to pay their respects for a second day to FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy, who was killed in a Bronx house explosion earlier this week.
CBS2's Brian Conybearer reports the grey skies and wet weather didn't stop hundreds of New York's bravest from saluting one of their own in Yonkers.
"It's what we as firefighters do," said FDNY firefighter Marc Dore.
Mourners paid their respects to the 44-year-old Fahy, who was killed in the line of duty Tuesday when a house exploded in the Bronx.
Fellow firefighters know risking your life is part of the job.
"It's truly tragic. Mike was a great guy. I knew him personally and everybody's in such shock because nobody ever thinks it's going to be them," Dore said.
People working near the funeral home on Yonkers Avenue were touched by the FDNY show of support for Fahy's wife Fiona Fahy and their three children.
"God above is crying over this, too," said hair salon worker Perry Daddary.
The funeral service is set for 11 a.m. in Yonkers on Saturday and between 10,000 to 15,000 people are expected to turn out.
Two men are now under arrest suspected of using the home to grow marijuana and investigators are looking into whether they were using propane tanks or tampered with gas lines to power the illegal operation.
