Mets Activate Cuddyer From DL, Campbell -- Not Conforto -- Sent Down To Las Vegas
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The kid is staying.
Heading into Monday's opener of a four-game series with visiting Colorado, there was speculation that outfielder Michael Cuddyer would be activated from the disabled list and the Mets would make room on the roster by sending down top prospect Michael Conforto.
Only part of that turned out to be true.
Cuddyer was activated following a three-week layoff due to a knee injury, but Conforto was penciled into the seventh spot in the lineup by manager Terry Collins.
Eric Campbell was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas instead.
Conforto is hitting just .222 (8-for-36) in 11 games since being called up to the majors from Double-A Binghamton back on July 24, but he's had some moments, including a four-hit game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 25 and his first major league home run, on Aug. 3 at Miami.
"We have been impressed with his game and we needed another left handed bat so that's why he is with the club," Collins said.
Collins says @mconforto8 has been as advertised. The skipper says conforto is a better outfielder and base runner than he thought. #Mets

The Mets, who carried a 1 1/2-game lead atop the NL East into Monday, are 6-5 in games Conforto has played.
Cuddyer is hitting just .250 with eight homers and 30 RBIs, but was really starting to swing the bat well prior suffering the knee injury on July 21, hitting .429 (9-for-21) with a pair of homers over his previous seven games.
Collins says the pain is gone in @mcuddy23's knee. Says he will have to see Cuddyer hit to get a full assessment of how he has recovered.

"He is one of the ultimate pros I have ever been around," Collins said of Cuddyer.
Campbell had played in just seven of the Mets, previous 17 games and was hitting just .179 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 61 games overall.
