US Issues Import Alert On Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizers From Mexico

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A consumer alert has been issued for certain hand sanitizers.

The U.S. is issuing an import alert on alcohol-based hand sanitizers coming from Mexico.

The FDA says instead of containing ethanol, some have tested positive for methanol.

Officials warn methanol can be toxic if absorbed through the skin and potentially deadly if swallowed.
