Mets Starter Dillon Gee Placed On DL With Strained Right Lat

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --  The Mets have lost a key piece of their starting rotation, at least for a couple of weeks.

Starting pitcher Dillon Gee has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right lat.

Jacob deGrom, who was called up on Monday to pitch out of the bullpen, will start on Thursday against the Yankees in Gee's place. It will be deGrom's big-league debut.

Prior to being called up, the 25-year-old was 4-0 with a 2.58 ERA in seven starts for the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s.

On Wednesday night, Rafael Montero will make his first majors appearance when he squares off against Masahiro Tanaka at Citi Field.

Gee's placement on the DL is retroactive to May 11.

The 28-year-old has been rock solid for New York this season. He's gone 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA in eight starts, striking out 33 and walking 15 in 52 2/3 innings.
