Bald Vinny OK With Mets' Roll Call, Calls Out Yankees Fans

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- "Bald Vinny" Milano says he has no problem with Mets fans doing roll call during Monday's home opener at Citi Field -- even if it is a Yankees thing.

Bald Vinny, the self-proclaimed mayor of Yankee Stadium's Bleacher Creatures, called into WFAN's "Benigno & Roberts" show on Tuesday to respond to the mini brouhaha brewing on social media.

"I really don't think it's garbage," Bald Vinny told host Evan Roberts of the chant that was started in a section packed with members of fan group The 7 Line Army. "I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. First of all, I will never, ever, ever get on fans for being loud and passionate for their team -- ever. I think it's awesome what The 7 Line does. They roll deep, they roll loud, but they only roll like 30 times a year. The thing with roll call is, we do that every night."

The 7 Line Army distanced itself from the impromptu Flushing roll call on Twitter. But Bald Vinny said he didn't feel threatened, and even went into a rant about the "passive" fans who inhabit Yankee Stadium on weekends -- and those who use every excuse in the book to stay away from joining him in the Bronx.

"They're loud. They're passionate," Bald Vinny said of The 7 Line. "They want to welcome their guys. Cheer some names, dude. Get on your seat and make some noise. To be honest with you, I kind of wish Yankees fans would show some of that passion.

"You know, I have days -- Saturdays and Sundays in particular -- where there's literally like three or four dudes out there who really know roll call or how to do it. Everybody else has their cell phones out because they want to post it to YouTube. I wish I had the support and the enthusiasm that the crew at The 7 Line has. I have nothing but love for (founder) Darren (Meenan) and his crew."
