Mets' DeGrom Scheduled To Return Sunday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom is scheduled to return to the mound Sunday.

DeGrom threw 71 pitches during a simulated game in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Tuesday. The right-hander had been battling a tight lat muscle on his right side, but manager Terry Collins said Saturday that is no longer an issue.

It's been a trying couple of weeks for deGrom. In addition to the injury, his wife gave birth to their first child, who had an undisclosed complication that led to the Mets placing deGrom on family medical emergency leave. The newborn boy, however, is doing better and back at the couple's Florida home.

In his only appearance this season, a 7-2 win over the Phillies on April 8, deGrom pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out six.

The Mets play a three-game series at the Atlanta Braves this weekend.
