Report: Jacob DeGrom, Wife Welcome Arrival Of Baby Boy

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- He's now deDaddy.

Jacob deGrom's wife gave birth to the couple's first child Monday night, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

Jaxon Anthony was born at 9:23 p.m., weighing 7 pounds, 12 ounces, according to the report.

DeGrom left the Mets on Monday afternoon to head to Florida to be with his wife, Stacey, after she went into labor. She had been due to give birth since last week, timing that put the pitcher's first start of the season in doubt.

The right-hander, however, pitched six innings Friday in the Mets' home-opening 7-2 victory over Philadelphia, but left the game with tightness in his right lat. He will miss his next start because of the injury.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday he is considering putting deGrom on paternity leave, a move that would allow the team to call up a player from Triple-A.
