Frigid Fans Out In Full Force At Citi Field
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York fans were cold at Sunday night's game, but they stayed optimistic and it paid off as the Mets scored early and held on for a 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the NLCS.
Many fans arrived at the game with their superstitions -- like one woman who cut off the head of a Mr. Met doll and fastened it to her hat, and another whose Mets jersey was emblazoned with light-up buttons and pins.
The big apple in the outfield had a bandage on it, marking the spot where Travis D'Arnaud's home run landed during Game 1 on Saturday night, WLNY 1055's Matt Kozar reported.
St. John's student and avid Cubs fan Andre Albanese was brave enough to come to the stadium wearing a Cubs jersey. Surrounded by his friends, Albanese explained that his attendance was about more than a rivalry.
"It's just friendship, that's all it is. We walk in the stadium friends, we leave as friends, that's all it is."
Others watching the game were trying to stay warm. Some fans opted to spend time near their grill at their pre-game tailgate, while others opted for layers of warm clothing.
"I'm dressed like I would be for Sunday night football right now, with the Jets," one fan said. "I'm bundled up, I got three layers of Under Armour on, my baseball socks, and this winter hat."
It was 44 degrees at Citi Field at game time, but felt like 36 with the wind chill.
