Metropolitan Opera Extends Deadline By One Week Before Possible Lockout

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The show will go on -- at least for now -- at the Metropolitan Opera.

A lockout between the Met's administration and workers was expected to start Sunday, but it's been delayed by a week, CBS 2 reported.

The Met agreed to have an independent analyst come in to examine the books.

The Met claims it needs to cut union pay and benefits because growing expenses are putting the company's future at risk.

Tino Gagliardi, president of the Met's orchestra union, last week accused the management of trying to fix its money problems on the backs of "the people that actually make the Metropolitan Opera happen."

The Met announced last week it had reached new contract agreements with three of the 15 unions with expiring labor deals.
