Small Fire Prompts Evacuation Of Menlo Park Mall In Edison, N.J.

EDISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The Menlo Park Mall in Edison, New Jersey was evacuated Friday evening due to a small fire.

The fire was believed to have been reported near the Victoria's Secret store in the mall, Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2.

The site of the fire was in a hallway, and it produced smoke that filled the surrounding area, officials said. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The mall was completely evacuated as a precaution, Biermann reported.

It was unknown what exactly caught fire.

All the shoppers were sent to the parking lot, and many employees were huddled outside with no jackets in the cold weather.

The mall had been expected to reopen soon afterward.
