NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/CBS News)-- The official website of Melania Trump has disappeared, but not without a trace.

The removal of her website comes amid questions over the legitimacy of a claim regarding she held a college degree. After reaction to the site's removal started to spread on the web, the wife of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took to Twitter offering an explanation.

Both the Republican National Convention program and official website cited that Melania Trump received a college degree in design and architecture at the university in Ljubljana, Slovenia, CBS News reported earlier this month.

CBS News checked official public records with the university and found that there was no record of her graduating with a degree.

MelaniaTrump.com now redirects to the homepage of the Trump Organization.

Melania Trump has been with the White House hopeful for 18 years and arrived in New York City 20 years ago. She became a U.S. citizen in 2006.
