Mayor De Blasio Celebrates First Prayer Of Ramadan At Manhattan Mosque

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio appeared at a Manhattan mosque Friday to celebrate the first prayer of Ramadan.

He also spoke at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York in East Harlem.

The mayor said it was powerful and meaningful to see the faithful get together this year to pray and gather as a community, more than a year after the pandemic began.

The holy month of Ramadan started Monday and is a time of fasting, prayer and reflection for Muslims around the world.
