De Blasio To Travel To Washington For Liberal Conference

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is going to Washington again.

Administration officials confirmed Monday that the Democratic mayor will be traveling to the capital on Friday to push his national political agenda.

He will be addressing a conference of business, labor leaders and other left-leaning executives to advocate a liberal economic policy.

The conference is sponsored by American Family Voices, a political action group that promotes liberal causes. De Blasio will also meet with federal officials and various state legislators.

He will then journey to Baltimore for a meeting of the United States of Conference of Mayors and remain there Saturday.

Some criticized de Blasio earlier this year for increasing his out-of-state travels at the expense of the day-to-day governance of the city.

The mayor has taken steps to grow his stature as a national liberal leader.
