NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A baseball star caused a quite the hubbub when he decided to take in a game -- OK, not just any game -- at Yankee Stadium.
We're not talking about Troy Tulowitzki. Not this time, anyhow.
Mets ace Matt Harvey -- no stranger to social media dust-ups -- was on hand to watch Derek Jeter's grand finale in the Bronx on Thursday night. And the reaction on Twitter, where his name was trending, was all over the map.
"Tonight is about #RE2PECT!!" Harvey posted on Instagram. "Saying farewell and paying the man this game has been blessed to have! A childhood idol and it's now an honor to call a friend!!!"
What's the big deal? The Mets were also in action, playing the second game of a doubleheader in Washington.
Maybe it was the months of Jeter adulation, or the fact that Harvey grew up a Yankees fan. But the pitcher's presence didn't sit too well with some folks:
Matt Harvey at the #yankees game while his team is playing is off-putting. His idol, who he is there to watch, would never do that. #mets

You guessed it…Joe is not thrilled with Matt Harvey

Um, @MattHarvey33 at the Yankees game? I love Matt, but that's a little tough to take.

Matt Harvey I love you bro but you're killing me

Others found humor in the whole thing:
Matt Harvey earns the pinstripes.

Jeter says to make it even with Matt Harvey he'll skip final road trip to Boston and attend Mets-Astros this weekend.

Then Andy Martino of the New York Daily News went and ruined everything by making sense:
If Alderson isn't going to get excited about Harvey being here, don't see why anyone else should. A guy is allowed to watch a ballgame.

As for "the Mets are playing." Harvey would be at every Mets road game this year, but team doesn't want that.

For their part, the Mets didn't seem bothered by Harvey's choice in weeknight activities. Neither were most fans, according to Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog.com.

Harvey, coming off Tommy John surgery, plans to make his grand return to the field -- Citi Field -- for Opening Day 2015.
