Police: Quarrel During Move Out Of Mastic Apartment Leads To Stabbing
MASTIC, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A clash over a move out of a Long Island apartment sparked a stabbing that injured two people this week, police said.
Suffolk County Police said around noon Friday, some people were helping a woman move from a Mastic home when a quarrel erupted.
Police alleged David Schermerhorn, 61, ended up stabbing two men involved in the move -- Eric Romaine, 48, and Danny Douglas, 27. Authorities termed the injuries non-life-threatening.
Schermerhorn was set to be arraigned after being arrested on an assault charge.
Relatives of Schermerhorn and Romaine said the woman was moving out after a break-up with Schermerhorn's wife's son.
Schermerhorn's wife, Connie, said he was defending his wife and daughter after they were attacked. Romaine's wife, Jeanne, said the helpers were peacefully collecting the tenant's belongings, threatened no one, and were attacked.
