"My second New York [marathon], this will be my eighth marathon," he told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond. "It's the greatest race in the world."

To celebrate all the miles they put in for the big race, runners are buying everything from jackets to coffee mugs with the marathon logo. Bill Warren, of Connecticut, was buying a shirt.

"It's always fun to do. Spend a little time and head back up to Greenwich, put my feet up for a couple of days before I leave," he said.

An estimated 50,000 runners from around the world will take part in Sunday's race as thousands line the streets to cheer them on.

On Wednesday, officials held a ceremonial painting of the finish line in Central Park.
