Firefighters Put Out Multiple Manhole Fires Across New York City

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Firefighters responded to multiple manhole fires across New York City on Saturday.

In Brooklyn, a manhole caught fire near Bedford Avenue and Park Place around 4:15 p.m. Two cars above the manhole cover also went up in flames, but were quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported.

Another manhole caught fire near Fifth Avenue and 80th Street in Brooklyn, and another near Third Avenue and East 156th Street in the Bronx.

In Manhattan, a manhole fire on West 87th Street prompted the partial evacuation of a nearby residence, which had a high carbon monoxide reading, the FDNY said.
