Police: Man Wanted For Stealing 57 Pairs Of Sunglasses From Manhattan Stores
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a man who they said has been stealing sunglasses from stores across Manhattan.
The suspect has hit several Sunglass Hut and Solstice Sunglasses locations on 10 occasions between December and May, police said.
He's made off with a total of 57 pairs of sunglasses, police said.
In the most recent incident, police said the suspect took off with 13 pairs from a Sunglass Hut on Broadway and Eighth Street on May 19.
One store employee, who did not want to give his name, said the clerk that evening was alone in the store.
"When she attempted to confront him, he told her, 'If you want to go home you'll stay over there,'" the employee said, adding that he hopes having more staff on shifts will deter the thief from coming back. "They take us from the bigger stores, send us to the smaller ones to kind of get things in order."
It was the second time the suspect hit that store. On April 15, he got away with eight pairs, police said.
The NYPD released a surveillance photo of the suspect from March 10, when they say he made off with two pairs of sunglasses from a store on Fifth Avenue.
