Caught On Camera: Man Stomped On Bronx Sidewalk, Robbed Of Cellphone And Keys

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A violent robbery was caught on camera in the Bronx.

Police are looking for the suspect seen viciously attacking a man on the ground, sending him to the hospital, CBS2's Nick Caloway reported.

The just-released footage shows the man repeatedly stomping and kicking the victim in the head and body while he's already down, before turning him over and going through his pockets.

The incident happened earlier this month on East 183rd Street near Morris Avenue in the Fordham section of the borough.

Investigators said the 40-year-old victim was walking into his building at around 1:30 a.m. when the suspect attacked him from behind. The assailant took the victim's iPhone and house keys before fleeing.

Caloway showed the video to neighbors, who quickly expressed concern.

"That's just crazy. It's unheard of that people do things like that in this area," a woman who identified herself as "Teresa" said. "It's not safe. I don't feel safe now, just knowing that."

"I'm a tough guy, but it doesn't matter. It could happen to me," a man named "Jack" added.

"It's sad, man. It's very, very sad," Greg Robinson said.

Police said the victim had cuts and bruising on his head. He was treated at a hospital and released.

The suspect is believed to be in his 20s and around 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, with a dark complexion and goatee. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, gray sweatpants and sneakers.

Some neighbors said they are now living in fear.

"Now that I'm hearing this, I'm kind of leery on just going to my building. I always watch my back, but you never know what can happen to you," Teresa said.

"Yeah, of course. My people, my wife, has to come through here at night. That's why I make it my business to go down there and meet her at night," Robinson added.

One of the neighbors Caloway talked to said the block had felt very safe in recent years.

That is, until now.
