Man Stabbed To Death In Apparent Dispute Over Unpaid Rent; Landlord Apprehended

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx landlord is in custody in connection to a fatal stabbing Wednesday evening.

Authorities say around 7 p.m. a 44-year-old man -- a tenant at 1001 Longan Ave. -- was stabbed multiple times throughout the body by the 51-year-old suspect.

The victim was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi where he was pronounced dead.

The house at the corner of Logan and Barkley avenues in the Schuylerville neighborhood was still cordoned off late Wednesday.

Neighbors tell CBS2 there have been ongoing problems between the tenant and landlord, and tonight those issues came to a head.

Leana Llanas describes the landlord as a "very nice gentleman."

"We spoke a month and a half ago and he was telling us what was going on, that they didn't pay rent, this this and that, and he was very stressed about it," she added. "He didn't know what else to do. He has to call the cops all the time because he wants them out and these people, they don't want to leave."

Neighbors add that the landlord turned himself in to police. He was in in custody late Wednesday and was being questioned by detectives.
