Authorities said they responded to a call of shots fired at the station at around 12:45 p.m. When they arrived, police found the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has yet to be officially identified.

"There were several shots fired, at least three," NYPD Chief of Transit Edward Delatorre said during an afternoon press conference. "At this time we believe shots were fired only on the platform."

The NYPD is looking for two persons of interest, one a heavy-set Hispanic male with some facial hair, and wearing either a blue or grey jacket and a multicolored scarf. The second man is a Hispanic with a slim build. The Department is also looking into whether the shooting was gang related.

Delatorre asked anyone who might have taken video of the incident to please send it to police, first by calling 1-800-577 TIPS.

"There were many witnesses on that train that saw this incident," Delatorre said, adding he hopes they can also provide descriptions of the individuals involved.

Subway traffic in the area was being diverted around the station while the investigation continues.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish.
