Man Shot, Killed In Car In Irvington, N.J.

IRVINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Irvington, N.J. on Monday night were investigating a shooting that left a man dead earlier in the day.

Charles A. McKinney Jr., 37, of Newark was shot around 12:40 p.m. Monday while in a car in the 200 block of 21st Street in Irvington, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's office. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 1:22 p.m., prosecutors said.

No other details of the shooting were immediately released.

The investigation was active and ongoing Monday night, prosecutors said. Anyone with information was asked to call the Essex County Prosecutor's office tips line at (877) 847-7432.
