Teenager killed in Harlem shooting
NEW YORK - A shooting in Harlem left a teenager dead and part of a street closed for hours Friday.
Police say a 17-year-old was shot multiple times in the back and pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital. He has been identified as Calvin Aaron, of the Bronx.
As CBS2's Jenna DeAngelis reports, the circumstances around the shooting are still unclear, but the road was still taped off at West 148th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue hours later.
According to police, the suspect shot the teen on the street around 3:20 p.m., then attempted to take off on a scooter.
Police say the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment building on St. Nicholas Avenue. At this time, a suspect is not in custody and may have gotten away.
Neighbor Antonio Roboostoff says he heard shots from his apartment.
"I heard pop, pop, pop, pop, and I see everyone running down the street, I see people running down the subway, and it was just like chaos on the street, which I've never seen before," he said.
We're told a bystander crashed their vehicle around the time of the shooting. The car ended up tipped on its side. It has since been towed.
Police have put down evidence markers and are still investigating, trying to figure out who did this and why.
