Police: Man Posing As Cop Robs Long Island Driver

WOODMERE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The search is on for a man who allegedly posed as a police officer and robbed a driver on Long Island.

Nassau County police say the suspect pulled over a driver on Broadway in Woodmere at about 3:45 p.m. Monday afternoon, after flashing what appeared to be police lights at the vehicle.

"The man was approached by a male Hispanic, in his mid 30s, six feet tall, and stated he was a police officer," Nassau County Police officer Steve Zachia told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

The suspect then told the 25-year-old driver to get out of the car and place his belongings on the trunk, CBS2 reported. The suspect then took the man's wallet before leaving the scene in a black Jeep, according to police.

Police have released a sketch of the suspect, which can be viewed above.

The investigation is ongoing.
