Police: Man Found Engulfed In Flames Behind Building In Astoria

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police and fire investigators are working to figure out what happened to a man found on fire behind a building in Queens.

Authorities said police were called to the rear of 27-18 14 St. in Astoria just before 7 a.m. Saturday for a report of a man on fire.

When officers arrived they discovered the body of a man engulfed in flames.

The FDNY also responded and extinguished the fire.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He had been shot in the chest before being set on fire, WCBS 880 reported.

His injuries have prevented officials from identifying him.

The city medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
