Man Gets 4 Years In Prison For Stealing Car Used In Trenton Drive-By

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man who stole a car that police allege was used in a deadly drive-by shooting in New Jersey's capital city is now headed to prison.

Louis Alvarado, of Hamilton, was sentenced on Friday to four years in prison after pleading guilty to receiving stolen property and other charges.

Authorities have said Alvarado, 24, wasn't in the vehicle when Daquan Dowling, 23, was killed in January 2012. They also have said Dowling apparently wasn't the intended target.

Dowling was driving a friend's car when the stolen vehicle pulled up alongside on northbound Route 29. Two men inside the vehicle then allegedly opened fire, shooting Dowling in the head.

A passenger in the car tried to gain control of the vehicle, but the car eventually hit a bridge.
