Man Gets 25-Year Sentence For 1990 Fatal Stabbing Of New Jersey Teen

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty during his murder trial to killing a New Jersey teenager nearly a quarter-century ago.

Steven Parkey Jr. was sentenced in state Superior Court in New Brunswick to a 25-year prison term.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty in February to aggravated manslaughter as a jury deliberated in his case, admitting to fatally stabbing Nikki Adams, of New Brunswick, on Oct. 3, 1990.

Fifteen-year-old Adams was discovered in an Edison motel room.

Detectives worked for years on the case, until Parkey was arrested in 2010 after DNA tests linked him to the crime scene.

Parkey, who lived in Highland Park at the time of the crime, must serve 12 years and six months before he becomes eligible for parole.
