ALPINE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A man was found dead at the bottom of a cliff off the side of a parkway in New Jersey over the weekend, according to police.

A search was prompted after a police officer noticed a vehicle parked in a parking lot by State Line Lookout -- off the northbound side of the Palisades Interstate Parkway near Alpine -- after the area had closed on Saturday night, according to police

Search crews resumed on Sunday morning, when lighting and weather permitted. A victim, later identified as John Norton, 35, of Palisades Park, was found below the cliffs near the parking lot where the vehicle was found the night before, according to police.

Officials said Norton came from the top of the cliff -- approximately 320 feet above where he was found.

According to officials, no suspicious circumstances were involved with Norton's death.
