Man Drowns In Long Island Sound

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man drowned in the Long Island Sound Sunday afternoon.

Suffolk County Police said Mouhamed Souleiman, 42, of Port Jefferson, was on a boat with friends when he decided to go for a swim south of the Middle Ground Lighthouse around 12:10 p.m.

Souleiman drifted away from the boat due to the current. Two friends located Souleiman unresponsive in the water and pulled him onto the boat.

He was transported to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into Souleiman's death continues.

Police said his death appears to be non-criminal in nature.
