Police: Man Dies After Being Thrown From Hood Of Moving Car In Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Staten Island man has been charged following an accident that left another man dead.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Veterans Road and Tyrellan Avenue on Staten Island.

Police said 24-year-old Robert Kunz jumped onto the hood of a car driven by 22-year-old Robert Messina following a dispute in a nearby parking lot.

Police said Messina then sped up to a high rate of speed and maneuvered to the right, causing Kunz to fall off the vehicle.

Kunz suffered trauma to his head and body, and was pronounced dead at Staten Island University Hospital, police said.

Messina was later arrested on charges of leaving an accident resulting in death and aggravated unlicensed operator.

It was unclear Tuesday if Messina had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
