Man Killed In Brooklyn Beating, Second Man Questioned At Hospital

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD late Sunday was investigating a deadly beating in Brooklyn that may have been sparked by a home invasion.

Police were called to the ground-floor apartment at 1776 Union St. in Crown Heights, Brooklyn Sunday and found a 48-year-old man with head trauma, the NYPD said. The man was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 69-year-old man who lived in the apartment was also taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was being questioned at the hospital.

As 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported, police believe the older man struck the younger man over the head.

Neighbors said the 69-year-old man needed a walker to get around and had a home health aide. So how did he overpower the younger man?

"You never know some of these old people – hey, I'm old myself, but he probably could," said one man, who did not want his name used.

The neighbor also said the 69-year-old man frequently had unsavory people going in and out of his apartment.

As of late Sunday, there were no arrests and the investigation continued.

Police late Sunday were trying to determine whether the victim may have been known to his attacker.
