Man Dead After Being Hit By SUV On Eleventh Avenue; Probe Continues

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police continued to investigate late Saturday, after a man was struck and killed by a sport-utility vehicle that ended up on the sidewalk in Hell's Kitchen a night earlier.

The accident happened around 9:50 p.m. Friday on Eleventh Avenue between 41st and 42nd streets, the FDNY said.

Police said Victor Grant, 56, of the Bronx was found lying on the sidewalk unconscious and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital Center, police said.

The NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad learned that before the accident, a 2004 Freight Liner truck and a 2005 GMC Envoy were both headed south on Eleventh Avenue when the vehicles made contact at 42nd Street.

The Envoy ended up on the sidewalk and struck Grant, police said. CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported the SUV also took down a fire hydrant when it ended up on the sidewalk in front of a FedEx store.

As of late Saturday, there had been no arrests and the investigation was ongoing.
