Man Crushed, Killed In Brooklyn Forklift Accident

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A worker was killed Tuesday when a forklift rolled back and crushed him in Brooklyn.

Police responded to the scene just before 6 p.m. at 315 Avenue M in the Midwood section of Brooklyn.

Officers learned that a 22-year-old worker was trying to push a Yale forklift that was being manned by another employee up a ramp leading to a parking area on the roof of the building. The worker was using a walk behind the electric forklift, police said.

The forklift rolled back and pinned the man against a wall, police said.

The victim – identified as Gustavo Tapia, 22, of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital Center, police said.

The investigation was ongoing Tuesday night.
