Man Charged With Shooting At Police Officer In Elmhurst, Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been arrested and charged with allegedly firing a shot at a police officer in Elmhurst, Queens back in June.
Christian Mosquera, 20, of Queens, was charged with multiple counts of attempted murder of a police officer and related charges, as well as criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
According to authorities, a uniformed police sergeant and a police officer were responding to a report of a group of men trespassing in the rear of 93-35 Lamont Ave. in Queens around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, when they observed a male suspect armed with a gun chasing another man, firing at him near Lamont Avenue and Forley Street.
Police said the two got out of their marked police cruiser and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. At that point, officials said, the suspect turned to the sergeant and officer and fired at them.
Both returned fire, but did not strike the suspect fled the scene.
Police said the firearm used in the shooting, a .22 caliber handgun, was recovered at the scene.
