Man Charged With Putting Head Under Woman's Skirt, Attacking Her In Subway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was arrested and charged Friday with burying his head under a woman's skirt in a Brooklyn subway station, and then attacking her when she pushed him away.

James Barnes, 61, of Crown Heights, was charged with assault and sexual abuse Friday, police said.

Police put out a notice about the incident on Thursday.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8. The 32-year-old woman was walking up the stairs leading out of the DeKalb Avenue B, D, N, Q and R train station in downtown Brooklyn when the suspect put his head under her skirt, police said.

The woman tried to push her away, prompting the suspect to throw her down the stairs and begin punching and kicking her, police said.

The suspect then ran off.

The woman suffered bruises and was hospitalized, police said.
