Man Charged In Stabbing Of Housemate In Englewood, New Jersey

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on Thursday said an Englewood, New Jersey man was "lucky to be alive" after he was stabbed in the heart.

The 27-year-old's housemate – Jose Wilbur Hernandez, 23 – was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to a report in The Record.

Hernandez is an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, the newspaper reported.

Englewood police Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told the newspaper the men got into an argument and the victim was stabbed once in their home on West Palisade Avenue early Thursday.

Torell said two police officers stopped the victim's bleeding. He said doctors told police another 30 seconds and the man would not have made it.
