Man Charged In Slaying At Bronx Psychiatric Facility

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A patient at a state-run psychiatric hospital in the Bronx was charged Saturday with killing another patient inside the facility.

Brett Smith, 19, was charged with second-degree murder in the Friday evening incident in the Bronx Psychiatric Center, at 1500 Waters Pl. in the East Bronx.

Police said Smith was arrested after Leon Little, 51, was found unconscious inside the facility at 7:52 p.m. Friday.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Little unconscious and unresponsive with abrasions on his throat, police said. He was pronounced dead at the center by emergency medical service workers.

Messages left with the Bronx Psychiatric Center and the state Office of Mental Health were not immediately returned Saturday.

Louis isn't off the hook completely. He was still facing a trespassing charge Saturday.
