Man Charged In Death Of Daughter, 19, In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx man has been charged in the death of his 19-year-old daughter in the Bronx, police said.

Officers arrived in an apartment on East 201st Street in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx around 3 p.m. this past Friday, and found Latia Atkins-Taylor, 19, unconscious unresponsive at the scene, police said.

Atkins-Taylor was taken to Montefiore Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

On Tuesday, the New York City Medical Examiner's office ruled Atkins-Taylor's death a homicide, police said.

Her father – Andrew Atkins, 56 – was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter on Tuesday.

Sources speaking to DNAInfo for a report issued Monday claimed that Atkins-Taylor's father restrained her while the young woman was arguing with her mother about staying out late.

Atkins-Taylor's mother, Virginia Taylor, said her husband got involved in the argument but did not cause her death, the publication reported Monday before Andrew Atkins was charged.

The publication said Atkins-Taylor worked for the summer at the Macy's flagship store men's department, and was set to go to college in the fall.
