Man Charged In Alleged Brunch Rage Incident On Upper East Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man who was apparently upset about waiting an hour and a half for an omelet at brunch has been charged with assaulting a restaurant manager, police said.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon at Bocca East on the Upper East Side, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

According to police, Nicholas Dematteis, 39, demanded a free meal before grabbing the manager by the neck and throwing him, first against the bar and then into an elderly woman outside on the sidwalk along Second Avenue.

"Maybe he had a bad Easter and he needed his eggs, I don't know," Dematteis' neighbor, Damon, said with a laugh. "It's unfortunate. I hope nobody got hurt."

Everyone is OK, Stern reported.

The manger told the New York Daily News that Dematteis was using a homophobic slur and appeared to be drunk.
